Lessons Learned

This weekend has been a great test for me and the kids. Jeremy left early Saturday morning to head up to Mt. Hood to go snow camping with his friends. This meant that I was left at home to take care of both kids by myself for the weekend. Yesterday was great - after the kids got up, Maya and I danced around the house for a while and did our MODEL walks across the kitchen floor while Declan laid on his play mat smiling at our girlieness. Maya ran to the door and said "dada" everytime she heard a car door slam so I had to keep her mind off of the door for a while. At around 7pm while Declan was napping in his bouncey chair, I decided to see if Maya would sleep in her big girl bed. I laid there with her for a while and then she got a huge burst of energy and started jumping on the bed. I tried baricading her from climbing out of bed but then she started shaking the side rail and when she attempted to just look over the rail she flip right over the rail onto the floor. Thankfully there were pillows on the floor but on her way down she managed to hit her head on the knob of her drawer underneath. I could see the bruise develope right away so I decided to keep her awake for a while longer just to make sure she didn't have a concusion or something. By 7:45pm she was sleeping in her crib.
I finally got Declan to bed by 9pm but he woke-up again at 11:30, which he normally never does. I thought it would be best if I just put him in the bed with me so that I wouldn't have to get up every hour if he didn't sleep, but it was I who could not sleep. I could hear him breathing and sighing all night long. I finally caught 3 hours -or so - of sleep only to get up at 7am while the kids were still in bed. For some reason, Maya and Declan seem to sleep at the same time, but Declan is usually awake more during the day. I was almost at my wits end during lunch when I made 2 lunches for Maya because she kept throwing it off her high-chair tray. With Declan in my arms, I made Maya pick-up every little piece of food she threw on the floor. Having two babies screaming at me at the same time is not my idea of fun. Thankfully they are both napping right now. Finally time for mommy to regroup!

I realize now that I really value my hour or so of ME TIME at night when Jeremy gets home from work and I am at the gym. Although excersizing seems like WORK at times too, it really does allow me to blow off some steam. I haven't had the chance to do that this weekend so perhaps that is why I am venting in this blog right now. On the good side, I weighed myself on Friday night and I have lost 8 lbs since January 1st. If I continue at this pace, I could be at my goal weight by my 30th birthday in May. What a blessing that would be!

As some of you know, it is not easy to get a picture of both kids together but I will leave you with two pictures I managed to catch last week.

Tammy ~ Boy do I know how you feel! Trav went to the car show today and helped fix his brothers car last night, so it has been just me & the girls the last few days. It's amazing how much I rely on Travis to be home on the weekends for my sanity! See ya on Wed! Stacey
