Mission Organization & Relaxation

One of the downfalls to this house we live in is that the laundry room is just a closet. In our old house, our laundry room doubled as our kitchen pantry so when we moved it was clear to me that one of my top priorities was for us to buy a house with a big laundry room. Well, as most people know, buying a house that envelopes all the desires of your heart hardly ever happens. There is always something that you must compromise. In our case the laundry room was one of those compromises. Imagine a laundry closet with no shelving or cupboard space. Now imagine two toddlers reaching for all of the chemicals every time I opened the doors to do laundry. That's right, the only place to store our soap and other cleaning supplies was on top of the dryer - until this past weekend. Enough was enough. In order to keep my sanity while doing my daily rounds of laundry, we had to install some shelving. We could have installed cupboards for around $150 but we decided that spanning the width of the closet with a shelf was a better option and it only turned out to be a $25 project. Design on a Dime....that's how we roll in our house. I do not have any before pictures but as you can see from the amount of chemicals we have, the shelf has been put to good use. Now all the kids can help me with is transferring the clothes into the dryer and who is going to argue with that?

We had a great time with some friends on Friday night who came over for a BBQ. Maya was being pretty hard to handle but soon after dinner we got the kids to bed and managed to have a fun night with Sarah and Tony - playing Cranium and Pass The Pigs (a hilarious game). It was nice to just relax and enjoy each other's company without having to run after the kids every five seconds.

And to end, here are a few pictures of Maya and Declan playing on the play-structure at Jeremy's parents' house while we were working on the salon. Maya is so strong that she can hold herself up on the rings for about 20 seconds without letting go. Check out her sparkly shoes too:)

I can't imagine not having any storage in my laundry space! Smart thinking to get yourself a shelf. I hear you on the "design on a dime"...it's hard when you really want something, but the thrifty part of us needs to take over. ;)

Love the pics of the kids playing. And, the sparkly shoes on Maya! I'm sure Mikayla would love a pair of those!
