The crib is sold, the playpen is packed away and Declan is now sleeping on his full sized mattress on his bedroom floor. He has been doing really well at bedtime and we have only had to check on him a few times this week. After he falls asleep, he stays in his bed and in the morning he sits on his bed and calls out for us to come get him. He has been a lot easier than Maya to transition so far. We are pretty thankful for that.
Last night while Jeremy was working late at the office and I had just put the kids to bed, I sat outside their rooms to wait until they settled down for the night. As I sat there, I began to write. I used to write a lot of poetry when I was in high school and college, but life started getting in the way after I became a wife and then a mother. It was nice to finally touch pen to paper again. And this time the loves of my life became my inspiration:
Sweetness of Motherhood
I breathe the escape
from which expectations follow
I rest in the folds
of the flowers that color my love
A mother with a spirit
that grasps for the heavens
A beating heart without noise
I hug the air that lies beneath their heads
And I wait for morning.

Wow, I hope that Alexis does that well when we transition her. Hopefully Declan will keep that up! Like the poem, we have a lot of talented friends! :)
This is really beautiful, Tammy! I hope that you are hanging in there with Jeremy's late nights at the office.
