25 Week Ultrasound

We had our ultrasound yesterday for Baby #2. He/She is weighing 1 lb 10 ozs so far. The baby's heart rate started out pretty low (120) and so the lab technician said that she wanted to check it again, with me laying on my side instead of my back, towards the end of our session. She went on to check the different parts (the heart, kidneys, spine, etc.) and asked us to turn our heads when she came to the hip area. We didn't want to find out the sex of the baby so that is why she had us turn away. Not that I can really tell, but it looked like everything is okay. She couldn't really offer up any information because that is my doctor's job to do. When we got home, Jeremy and I compared the pictures with Maya's ultrasound pictures and noticed that this baby seems to look more like a skeleton than Maya did at this stage. Maya seemed to have more fat on her or something. It could just be the way the light was shining on the baby this time around though. In the first picture (above) it looks like the baby has an overbite and a lot of teeth, like Jeremy. We call him/her JAWS....haha. In the second picture (above) you will have to turn your head to the left to see the baby's face. The eyes are open so it looks as though the baby is staring right at you! The nose is pressed up against my belly so that is why it may look weird. Anyway, the ultrasound was over in about 1/2 an hour and then we were out the door and nearly got on the elevator to head back down to our car when the lab technician came running up the hallway to have me go back for a final heart beat scan. We had both forgotten that she was going to check it again. I went back to the office and hopped on the table for a few more minutes and sure enough the baby's heart rate was back up to 140. I was thankful to hear that!
We are heading out of town in a few hours to go to Bend, Oregon where Jeremy will be competing in a triathlon (running, biking, swimming). He is pretty excited about doing it but I think he's resigned himself to the fact that he won't finish in the top 100. I think it's an amazing accomplishment just to even finish it. I will let you know how he did when we return home later this weekend. We will be camping there all weekend too - Maya's first camping experience. Should be fun!
Hope you have a great weekend everyone!
