I remember knitting barbie clothes when I was younger. My most intricate design was a wedding dress - and I still have this dress in my keepsakes box today. I don't remember ever using a pattern and to this day I find it easier to create my own designs instead of straining to read a knitting graph. My designs are one-of-a-kind and that's what makes it so much fun for me.
All that said, I continue to add more to my knitwear collection on my etsy shop (http://www.expressionsdesign.etsy.com/). The following is not for sale but I thought I would share it with you anyway. This was my first attempt at a skirt...
I tried to make a matching hat but the yarns did not match so well. Here is the hat I made for Maya as well...
Thanks again mom for sharing your knitting knowledge with me.

Not a problem. If you were close by we could have a "Knitting Bee." LOL It's nice to be able to follow a pattern, but since you are so talented and don't need one, that's even better. I should be knitting more, but I get bored with it. I have so many grandchildren now and they are growing so fast that by the time I'd get something finished, they might have outgrown it. It's an idea for Christmas though. We'll see. I love how you put your own personality into what you do. It makes it that much more special. This skirt is really cute, moreso than the one or two that I knitted in the past. Keep up the great work!
I have no clue how to knit but would love to learn someday. Your projects are simply *beautiful*!
You do an AWESOME job knitting. I started to learn a while back but haven't finished my first scarf yet :)
I love your knitting!!!
On Wednesday's my mom, Melissa and Emily all get together to knit at my mom's house. My mom's cousin (who is an excellent knitter) comes out to help and teach them. I just heard them talking about "pearling" last week;) You should join them! I politely declined the invitation to learn right now, I think I know the limits of what my little brain can handle!!!
